Welcome to the Gladstone Roots Project website.

Gladstone Roots is a Heritage Lottery funded project managed by the Friends of court hey park and Knowsley MBC, and is a unique community archaeological investigation to explore the heritage of the Gladstone family in Court Hey Park by excavating the site of the Victorian mansion house.

The Friends are based in Court Hey Park, on the border of Knowsley and Liverpool and we are a community group consisting of local residents. We are keen to provide the community with knowledge of the history of our park. It is not widely known that our park was at one time the home of Robertson Gladstone, elder brother of the Victorian Prime Minister, William Ewart Gladstone. A Grand Mansion house once stood in the park until it's demolition in the 1950's.

This web site aims to provide a record of events and an online exhibition of artifacts relating to the project.

Please contact us if you can help with the identification / stories about any of our artifacts found during the exploration.
