unique and surprising object was found near the main dig site by metal detectorists.
An internet search turned up the Scripps
Booth Car Register web site. The badge was from a Scripps Booth
automobile manufactured in Detroit, United States. Kenneth Kaufmann was most
helpful with our enquiry and informed us that this badge was from the wheel
hub on a wire wheel model. Thanks to them, more detailed information about this
American car manufacturer can be read
here in word format. How a badge from an expensive and rare American car circa 1900-1919 ended up buried in court hey park is anyone's guess - the Gladstone family could certainly afford one and Walter Longueville Gladstone did not pass away until 1919. |
